Western States Center (WSC) strengthens the organizing capacity of schools and communities across the Pacific Northwest and Mountain West. With a focus on gender justice, racial justice, and tribal sovereignty, WSC educates and supports communities through partnerships, trainings, and resources that support diverse social movements.

Challenges

The organization needed to communicate the breadth and depth of its work—including leadership development, rapid response interventions, and cultural storytelling—in a way that reflects both scale and impact. They also needed assistance to provide training and rapid response support for educators confronting white nationalism in schools.

Solutions

Square Lightning partnered with Western States Center to conduct their work in schools and articulate and elevate their achievements. We highlighted their impact through compelling visual reports and presentations, and designed multiple toolkits to support local communities in taking action. We also conducted dozens of trainings to help schools resist the influence of white nationalism and worked closely with educators to prepare them to do the same.

Outcomes

With over 1,500 media mentions, tens of thousands of downloaded materials, and a growing national presence, Western States Center continues to lead with vision and urgency. Our work helped capture and grow the scale of their reach and the power of their movement-building efforts.
